The musical maestros of Open Water, are back with their latest album release – ‘Above The Waterline’.
Offering a beautiful representation of the coastal town of Deal, this 11 track offering is an emotive and inspiring homage to the power of folk music. From its opening track ‘Summer Cries’, Open Water harks back to the traditional folk style, layering acoustic guitars to generate a warmth and comfort.
Accompanying the album is a stunning music video by the band, shot in the surrounding Kentish woodland. Each video portrays the melancholic sentiment of the corresponding song; from the sentry soldier opening track ‘Lone Tree Hill’ to the heartbreaking ‘Winter Bride’, Open Water takes their listeners on a thoughtful, compelling journey throughout the album. This is even more impressive considering the difficult path drummer/singer Joanne Doolan has had to undertake. In 2017 she underwent a nerve-wracking vocal surgery to remove two cysts, and although the surgery was no guarantee of success, her voice has come back better than ever.

Now she has been able to pass her gift along to others, with the release of the inspirational ‘Above The Waterline Folk fans of all ages should take the opportunity to appreciate Open Water’s fantastic new offering, and hear the incredible music for themselves. It’s an encapsulating, yet broadly appealing record that speaks to the soul and showcases why we continue to be so moved by the power of folk.
So if you’re in the mood for a musically mature and emotionally enlightening experience, explore the sound of Open Water and ‘Above the Waterline’.
