Visionary artist collective, UBU, has recently released their highly anticipated debut album, aptly self-titled after the group’s namesake. The record serves as a tribute to their founding member, the late Marco Trinchillo, whose influential presence can be felt in every track. The brainchild of Trinchillo and Mattia Mercuriali, the project began as a side endeavour for their band Amycanbe, which quickly evolved into a platform for artists of all kinds to come together and create under one umbrella.

Bringing together a diverse range of musicians such as Hannah Saunders, FRNQ, Nicola Biondi, and more, UBU’s self-titled album showcases their unique blend of haunting melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and intricate production. Spanning over 11 tracks, the album was produced over two years by UBU and Franco Naddei at ‘L’Amor Mio Non Muore’ studio in Forli, Italy, but unfortunately, tragedy struck soon after recording was completed. In a devastating turn of events, Marco Trinchillo, a self-taught drummer and acclaimed photographer, passed away at the young age of 41 due to cardiac arrest.

However, his legacy lives on in UBU’s music and the impact he had on the artists he collaborated with. Through his guidance and mentorship, Trinchillo brought together another generation of musicians and artists, leaving a lasting impression on the creative world. His stunning photography, which has been featured in esteemed publications like The Guardian, Vogue, and Dazed, continues to inspire and captivate audiences. UBU’s self-titled album pays homage to Trinchillo’s infinite influence and serves as a reminder of his brilliance. With tracks like “Over (ft. FRNQ)”, the lead single of the album, UBU invites listeners to experience a cathartic journey through soul-stirring melodies and emotive vocals.

Drawing influences from artists like Radiohead, Massive Attack, and Elliot Smith, UBU’s music is both ethereal and raw, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its immersive soundscapes. UBU’s self-titled album is available on all major platforms and serves as a poignant tribute to a visionary artist whose legacy lives on through his art. With their thought-provoking lyrics and mesmerising melodies, UBU is a collective that defies genre and pushes the boundaries of what it means to create music. Through their music, they honor the memory of Marco Trinchillo and remind us that his art will always be with us, inspiring and captivating us for years to come.
