Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé, who shot to fame in the mid-00s, is back with a moving new single titled “Roots”. Set to release on November 29th, this single marks a new chapter in her career as she takes full control of her music and promotes female empowerment in the male-dominated industry.

Co-written and produced by Ollie Green, “Roots” is a tender track that reflects on our history and looks forward with hope. Sandé’s powerful vocals paired with gentle keys create a soulful and emotional experience for the listeners. The lyrics evoke striking imagery of nature, highlighting themes of legacy, community, and the importance of knowing our roots. Sandé’s upcoming performances for the single are sure to be a treat for fans. She will be performing with a full choir and orchestra at Belgium’s Night of the Proms and at the German sustainability awards. She has also been invited to perform at the Vatican for the Pope’s Christmas concert in aid of Palestinian and Ukrainian victims of war. In a recent documentary-style feature on The One Show, Sandé travelled back to her hometown in Aberdeenshire to rediscover her own roots, adding a personal touch to her upcoming release.

For Sandé, her Scottish identity has played a significant role in shaping her as an artist. Growing up in Alford, Aberdeenshire and studying in Glasgow, she has now made the decision to move her studio back to her hometown, where her musical journey began. Her first piano, which holds sentimental value, will be the centerpiece of her studio. This is where she will be creating her upcoming album, incorporating aspects of her Zambian heritage and embracing her identity fully.

Sandé’s achievements speak for themselves. She made history at the 2012 London Olympic Games with her performances at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Her 2012 debut studio album ‘Our Version of Events’ was the best-selling UK album of the year, spending 10 weeks at the top of the charts. In 2017, she was appointed MBE for her contributions to the music industry. “Roots” is the first release under Sandé’s independent record label, Venus Records, and will be distributed by Absolute. Be sure to mark your calendars for November 29th and immerse yourself in Sandé’s soulful and thought-provoking new single.
