World-renowned artist Gary Louca is taking the independent route for his ambitious upcoming animation project, ‘The Spirit of Toronto’.

With streaming giant Netflix having recently downsized their animation team, Louca has taken it upon himself to use a grassroots production model for the animated X-part series, whilst still maintaining the same standards as industry-backed releases.

The show follows the journey of a man across the world and through different time periods, with settings including Ancient China and the Wild West. Louca is serving as both the showrunner and co-writer/producer of the soundtrack, which is set to be an eclectic mix of genres and styles.

The show’s first single, Memories, is a pop classical crossover ballad featuring Louca and operatic duo Trovatori. The visuals have been brought to life with a mix of 2D and 3D animation thanks to the illustration of Thayen Rich, who has worked on major commercial and entertainment projects across the UK and USA including Hollywood films Triangle, Creep, and The Wedding Date. The first episode of ‘The Spirit of Toronto’ is now available online.
